NTU and S.E.A. Aquarium Join Forces to Safeguard Marine Super Corals

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and S.E.A. Aquarium have signed an underwater memorandum of understanding (MOU) on marine conservation.

The MOU and collaboration aim to increase marine super coral protection through increased climate research and observation, merging the expertise of NTU's Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) and S.E.A.'s resources.

The partnership will also look to breed heat-tolerant corals, as coral is currently dying due to increased ocean temperatures caused by climate change. Similarly, students from NTU will have the opportunity to intern at S.E.A. and use the aquarium's facilities for teaching.

Furthermore, with the S.E.A. aquarium showcasing these results, NTU will use its EOS facility to gather data on ocean temperatures and other metrics.

All in all, this partnership comes at a critical time for conserving coral, with increasing ocean temperatures due to climate change. Thus, this collaboration will help preserve super coral in the South China Sea and beyond.
