Rescuing Endangered Turtles in Cape Town's Conservation Effort

The Turtles Conservation Centre at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town has saved five hundred endangered baby sea turtles after a storm left the turtles stranded.

These turtles were swept to Cape Town by the storm, which was a rare occurrence for the region. Around four hundred turtles have been housed at Two Oceans Aquarium for conservation, with the other one hundred being distributed to two other aquariums to protect them.

The Turtles will be kept at the aquariums until they fully recover and rehabilitate, and around $500 per turtle will be spent on rehabilitation.

Overall, this rescue mission highlights the impact natural disasters can have on marine life due to climate change. The effects of climate change are profound and affecting species globally. Thus, organizations such as Oceans Aquarium must act to conserve and help maintain species numbers when increased global temperatures threaten them.
